4 Last-Minute Tips to Make Your Home Look Festive This Christmas

It’s been a tough year for people all over the world. But despite the pandemic, Christmas is not cancelled, for there are still many things to be grateful for that are worth celebrating. Christmas may only be 10 days away, but that’s enough time to dress up your home and give your interior spaces a much-needed holiday makeover.

Hurray Design recently collaborated with Fig & Vine Studio for a webinar aimed at sharing Christmas decoration ideas using real flowers. Fig & Vine, a premier floral studio in the Philippines, was founded by Stephanie Coyiuto-Tay in September 2019. The brand started with only 20 products, but now its portfolio has expanded to feature more than 200 offerings; what's more, Fig & Vine also caters to requests for customization.

Fig & Vine’s HOLIDAY COLLECTION

Fig & Vine Studio’s marketing manager, Diorjica Ranoy, was present to discuss the different accents from their holiday collection that can instantly lend a Yuletide-perfect spin to your home. The brand offers poinsettias, mini pine trees, Christmas wreaths and door hangers, as well as centerpieces that can go well with candles. Diorjica also gave detailed tips on how to maximize the lifespan of your real holiday displays, considering which areas they’re placed at and the amount of sunlight and water they should be getting.

But at the core of this webinar were tips on how you can make your home look festive this Christmas with just a few strategically placed accents, as well as the specific Fig & Vine items that would suit certain Hurray Design themes (Practical Luxury, Modern Functional, Contemporary Minimalist, and Casual Eclectic). There to expound on this topic was IDr. Kim Abla, one of the design leads for Hurray Design. She listed down four tips that will serve as great reminders for the next Christmases to come.

  1. Know or identify your Christmas theme. Streamline your options by deciding on your theme. You wouldn’t want to end up with a visually cluttered space filled with random things. Your theme may be color palette-driven: classic with red and green or red and white, elegant with gold and silver, rustic with twig elements, or a white, wintry Christmas.

  2. Maintain a cohesive color palette. In line with item #1, once you've decided on your theme, make sure you stick to the color scheme aligned with it. As Kim pointed out, "Color is very important. It has to be cohesive all the way—from the wreath to the trees to the centerpieces and other décor such as the nutcrackers, Christmas balls."

  3. Use real scents as additional décor. When it comes to overall design, scent is an important factor too, as it contributes to setting the mood of a space. Enhance the visuals with elements that appeal to your sense of smell. This holiday, Diorjica suggests to make your space warm, cozy, and inviting by adding holiday décor that mixes and matches scents of the likes of dried oranges, cinnamon, ilex berries, and pine leaves.

  4. Choose the appropriate size. A well styled space pays attention to how small or big the elements must be, to complement an area best. Before you go ahead and buy your Christmas décor, make sure you know where to put them first so you can factor in how they'd most likely look when displayed. For example, if you have a tall or a wide door, it's important that your wreath is big enough to accentuate the door and serve as its focal point. To cater to varying needs, Fig & Vine has three sizes of holiday wreaths and mini pine trees: small (40cm), medium (50 cm), and large (60 cm); but, again, they also accept custom orders depending on your requirements.
