A Celebration of Midcentury Modern Design from Around the World

Over the past decade, Hurray Design has fostered partnerships with quality and premium suppliers to deliver the best to our clients. One of the brands that stands out is CWC Interiors, a brand founded in 1992, which has grown into a distributor of the biggest furniture brands today. With a selection of furniture suitable for any project type, it’s always a treat visiting their showrooms around the Metro. This month, the brand has filled their BGC showroom with some of the most iconic furniture pieces.

Step into the world of Midcentury Modern Design featuring a remarkable collection of curated pieces prepared by Fred Yuson of CWC Interiors, and Ken Mishuku of Midcentury Manila.

From Aalto to Yanagi, Iconic & Exotic showcases the best of midcentury modern furniture design all under one roof. We see creations by key figures such as George Nelson, Isamu Noguchi, Verner Panton, and many other designers, which have shown their own distinct take on the style. Experimentation birthed new possibilities for design, influencing pieces from a spectrum of fields, making good design accessible to all.

Upon entering the showroom, you’re welcomed with miniature replicas (scaled 1:6) of icons in furniture design. Truly a sight for collectors, designers, and enthusiasts alike, allow yourself to be immersed in the reproduction of the smallest details of these remarkable pieces.

At the heart of the exhibit, you’ll see a transition from miniatures to a full display of chairs from personal collections, auction items, and even items available for purchase. It’s hard to believe that some of these pieces were designed in the 1940s and even today, the designs feel very contemporary and new.

You’ll also notice some contemporary pieces such as Virgil Abloh’s iteration of Prouvé’s Antony chair, Dai Sugasawa’s Ishino Low Table for Walter Knoll and Thomas Heatherwick’s Spun Chair for Magis.

An Eames-filled wall shows a more humanistic approach to design, utilizing different materials such as molded plywood, aluminum, molded fiberglass, and the like. Here, you’ll see the masterful use of clean lines and minimal forms, brought to life by Ray’s playful designs, such as the Dot Pattern Fabric and the Eames Office Logo.

Towards the back of the showroom, you’ll find all sorts of iconic chairs - some even being wrapped to be brought to their new homes! Nestled in a small corner, we were surprised to see a chair by the founder of the Memphis Group, Ettore Sottsass.
